Cave of the Winds has opened up there most recent Attraction called, The Greatest Escape Games, located just ten minutes down the road on 801 South Tejon Street in Manitou Springs. The Greatest Escape Games is the newest release of the “escape room” trend. The trend first started in Asia in 2012, and since then, has spread to Europe and now the United States. Escape games combine elements of theater with actors and gameplay with special effects. In The Greatest Escape Games, participants have one hour to find over a dozen hidden clues, puzzles, games, and brain teasers.

The inspiration of The Greatest Escape Games is when April Carey and her husband, part owners of the business, visited an escape room while on vacation. After they finished the room, they came up with the idea to start one in Colorado Springs. It is a different activity to do with friends or family instead of the usual. Another reason it attracts people is, according to April Carey, “Colorado Springs had a lot of attractions, but not many evening attractions, and [The Greatest Escape Game] is a great thing to do around dinner time.” The Greatest Escape games are a challenging yet fun activity for people of all ages. It gets everybody involved no matter what the age to all work together, working toward one common goal.

There are three different rooms varying in difficulty, the easiest of the three rooms called “Children’s Play,” for ages five and up. The second hardest is “Scandal” for ages six and up,  taking  place in a  politician’s house where the owner of the house is the prime suspect in the disappearance of a young and beautiful intern. Your job is to find the gun before he returns from his dinner party. The hardest of all three of the rooms is “Cabin Fever,” and is for ages eight and up. In this room, the players are locked in a cabin and have to find a map that leads to the gold mine and register it at the town’s office before the deadline. In the upcoming months, The Greatest Escape Games are looking into building two more rooms to go with the three they already have.

Each room holds a group of eight, and they have to work together to figure out how to solve the clues to escape the room . The times for the rooms run Tuesday through Saturday all year long. On weekdays, they are open at 4:15 P.M. until 7:15 P.M. Saturdays are open at  12:15 P.M. until 7:30 P.M.
