Our very own Liberty Lancers Hockey Team began their season last Monday with a win against Air Academy: 7-2. Winning this game meant that they completed one of their goals for this season.

On December 7th, the Lancers faced off against the Panthers, making it their second game of the season. This game was held at Sertich Ice Center, with the game starting at 9:05 pm, the latest game this season. The Liberty Lancers started off strong in the first period with both Nik Reddecliff (number 8) and Greg Schenzielos (number 14) both scoring goals. At the end of the first, Liberty was up by one making it 2-1. During the second period, the boys scored another two goals, both by Connor McIlhany (number 20). Period two resulted in a 4-4 tie. As the third period progressed, Seth DiMarino (number 10) scored the last goal for Liberty. It was around this time that Noah Castanon (number 18) was injured right below his knee, and was out the rest of the game. He is recovering and should be back on the ice sometime next week. The final score for this game was 5-6 Woodland Park.

After the game, Greg Schenzielos answered some questions pertaining to the team as a whole. When asked about how he felt going into this season, he replied, “there are some minor things that we need to improve on, but it feels really good.” As a follow up question about improvement, Greg answered, “we have all done better with communication and we all know how to play with each other.”

The lancers Hockey teams looks like they are going to have a strong season this year, with 16 of their 18 games being within Colorado Springs. Catch their next game against Rampart on Saturday, December 15th, 7:30 pm, at the World Arena Ice Hall.
