Mark your calendars ladies and gentlemen, it is bath season. For all those bath lovers, this holiday is for you. December 5th is national bathtub party day, a day where everyone can release their built-up stress and relax in a hot mess of bubbles. While this seems like a useless holiday, it could help your mental state and improve your mood and benefit your body as a whole.

Bathtub Party Day is a day that was created to skip taking showers, and instead take the luxurious bath. As history goes, the day was created by Thomas and Ruth Roy, creators of Wellcat Holiday’s. These two individuals have also created days like “Barbie and Barney Backlash Day” as well as “Don’t Step on a Bee Day”. Originally, these holidays were to be taken as a joke, and just to make people laugh, but some people truly follow them.

This holiday however, can be very helpful to the human body. In general, baths can be a great way to destress from the previous day’s events. Taking the time to sit in thoughts and in the warm comfort of the water can soothe the body and brain, relieving stress. The heat can then help comfort muscles that have tightened throughout the day. Too add to this meditation technique, aromatherapy has been proven to help in the relaxation process. Aromatherapy is the use of scents and essential oils to reach a steady state of mind. These oils can be placed ether around the bath tub or can be placed within the water to achieve the best results.

If you are someone who would rather have fun in the bath than relax, then there are ways you can do that too. Bath bombs have created an explosive trend that add a sense of excitement: watching all the colors blend together, dying the water pink. Most bath bombs have essential oils in them, creating the perfect duo of relaxation and fun.

As the year is coming to an end, finals are rapidly approaching by the second. During the weeks leading up to finals week, and the week itself, many students can become burdened with homework and constant studying. This is the perfect time to take a break, breath, and relax in a bath for 3o minutes to regroup and come together. Kali Ryan, a senior here at Liberty, believes that taking baths is a great study break “I feel really refreshed after taking a bath, and even tend to concentrate more on my studying after I have taken a bath.”

While this holiday was created as just a joke, it serves as a reminder to take a break for yourself and think about your mental health. Whether it is just a plain old water, or one that has tons of smells and colors, baths are a great way to reduce anxiety and stress along with having fun.
