The Hollywood entertainment industry has seen its big hits; along with declines. However, With the recent release of Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Endgame,” that has drastically changed.

The film has broken nearly all current records of the movie industry, having an opening making $1.2 billion. This number is near double the film’s predecessor “Avengers: Infinity War.” According to statistics, “Endgame” has made approximately $330 million in China; making it one if the highest-ever grossing movies in the country. Even during domestic release, the movie has currently made over $357 million and has in total grossed $886 million overseas. These numbers highly exceeded analysts’ expectations of what the movie would make, which was only around $260 to $300 million domestic revenue.

So, why is this marvel movie so popular? Well, for starters. The movie is essentially to wrap-up over a decade of a cinematic storyline that has been carefully planned and laid out by Marvel Studios. This is perhaps a major reason why this movie has propelled so such great success in such a short amount of time. There is a giant fanbase for these kinds of movies – especially for Marvel – and considering the cliffhanger that “Infinity War” left us hanging with, it left fans craving for more.

The film started showing internationally on Wednesday, April 24, and only took just 5 days to cross the $1 billion mark for its debut. As mentioned, this giant leap in success has made the movie shatter previous records for opening debuts. Not only that, but the movie is also highly regarded by critics according to Rotten Tomatoes, with a 96% score. The film also holds an A+ rating on CinemaScore.

Many fans speculate that now the general storyline of the MCU is complete, this is “the end of an era.” However, they would actually be quite wrong. Although “Endgame” does signal a type of end for a story, it opens a new door for the Marvel brand as a whole. Disney themselves have even announced that they would be soon airing their own original series of certain Marvel characters on their own Disney+ streaming platform. Not only that, but there are rumors of potential X-men and Fantastic Four films on the horizon along with these new television shows.

Disney’s potential expansion with the Marvel brand may be able to bring a lot more synergy to the big and small screen. And of course, make a lot of money in the process. Currently, Disney only has two Marvel themed shows planned for their exclusive streaming service: one that features Scarlet Witch and Vision; two very prominent characters within the MCU and the other featuring Falcon and Winter Soldier. Although an official release date has not been slated for either series, the announcements have certainly garnered some attention.  Alongside these statements, there is also a rumor that Marvel is also planning on making a series solely dedicated to Hawkeye, and that all three shows will join another series featuring Loki.

Many people across the world have been buzzing around the hype that the film has generated. A poll surveying students at Liberty High School, for example, revealed that almost all of those interviewed had seen the film. Those that hadn’t, however – well let’s just say we shouldn’t release any spoilers.

“Avengers: Endgame” may have been an end of an era, but that was just one arc of a very long story. As far as Disney is concerned, they can very easily turn the success of this gigantic blockbuster into a better advertisement for their streaming platform. So, if you’re a hardcore Marvel fan, it may be time to start getting excited for what’s to come.
