The transition from middle school to high school is commonly perceived to be a substantial change. The class of 2029, the current freshman class, shared what influences helped them overcome the difficulties of transitioning.
When the freshmen initially arrived at Liberty, they claimed to be nervous about the new transition. However, after spending more time getting acclimated and trying new things, they seemed to grow to enjoy the environment that high school provides.

Freshman student Lillian Fraker shared, “I feel like there’s a much stronger community here and I like it.”
Fraker is in the environmental club and doesn’t hesitate to share her appreciation for the group she works with and the work that they do. She claimed that she had no notable struggles within her transition because of the welcoming environment that she was immediately introduced to.
Freshman student Gabriel Lehman shared the same kind of appreciation for the new conditions that they’ve been faced with. When asked about the differences between high school and middle school, Lehman claimed, “High school is a lot more complicated, but it’s more fun. The sports are more challenging and the teachers are nicer.”
Though some aspects of high school can be difficult to become accustomed to, Lehman seemed to appreciate a good challenge. He, like many other students, looked forward to high school because of the new opportunities and interactions that would be available.
When asked about what they’ve enjoyed about high school, freshman Finn Culpepper stated, “Marching band is the one thing that sticks out, I’m really looking forward to all of the band things.”
These freshmen students have quickly implemented themselves into very different activities, yet they’ve all found a solid appreciation for their communities. Though the initial transition was strange, it seems as though they’ve quickly found who they enjoy being around and what they enjoy doing.

Back at the beginning of the year during the freshman orientation the freshmen were shown around the school and were introduced to each other by the “Link Crew” club.
Link Crew leader Blayne Fenicle explained, “Honestly, my experience with the freshmen was really good. A lot of the freshmen were really engaged and we had a very connected group.”
Link Crew leader Claire Cho shared some words of motivation for the freshman, suggesting, “Remember that high school goes by fast, you can do whatever, make mistakes, try new things – this is the time to do it.”
The teachers are also having their own interactions from the new students and the opportunities they bring. Teachers believe that this year’s freshmen will go far and do great things.
Ms. Wontor, a freshman exclusive teacher explained, “This group of freshmen is very focused, I think that they’re going to do really well.”
The freshmen have quickly become accustomed to the conditions of high school and they’ve made a good impression on the people around them so far.
