Some students at Liberty High School ace their tests while working part-time jobs. Some Liberty Students can do a whole day of school while working part-time and are still able to succeed academically. The students need to use their time to keep up with their classes in order to succeed.
First, students take steps to ensure that they are successful in prioritizing academics so that they are not falling behind academically. If students take as much time in class or in their free time, it is possible to manage both schoolwork and a job. Sophomore student Trent Bolchalk explained, “I try to study as much as I can and just do as much work when given to ensure I have no homework.”
Students manage time wisely so they can get their schoolwork done on time in class and won’t have to worry about it after work. It also makes it easier for them to work on the weekends when they have a lot of free time, and work doesn’t take up as much time on the weekdays when they need to focus on school. Junior student Noah Reeck stated, “I make sure I do it in school or after school sometimes since I only work on the weekends.”
Students may get overwhelmed by the difficulty of maintaining their schoolwork and job. Junior Jacob Gillis explained, “Sometimes I do get overwhelmed because the work can start to pile up if I don’t stay on top of it.”

Between going to work and school, the work can start to pile up, and it can be hard to stay on top of grades since free time is harder to come by. Students make sure that in their free time, they have to get the work done. They also emphasize being calm and getting everything done on time to avoid the stress of handling both.
The classes students take can also be a significant factor in staying caught up and performing well in school, and can be challenging to balance if some students are enrolled in AP classes compared to regular classes. Depending on the class, it could make it easier or harder on students, however. Sophomore Student Trent Bolchalck states, “Work can pile up sometimes depending on the class because it could be easier or harder to do.”
If students manage their time wisely, it is definitely possible for them to manage both the workload and going to a job. If they focus hard and get work done in class or in their free time, they can avoid the stress of having to do it all in a short amount of time. And it makes it easier if students don’t work as often or work on the weekends to avoid burnout, and can have more time to themselves.
