Liberty students scrambled out of their fourth period class on Wednesday, Oct. 8. They all were headed to Red Rocks Amphitheatre, for the evening that they knew they would remember for a long time: Laufey’s “A Matter of Time” tour concert.

Promise kept, and expectation upheld
Many students who attended the concert discovered Laufey in 2023, with the release of her album “Bewitched,” and 2024, when the album was rereleased in “The Goddess Edition.” Both editions of the album remain a fan-favorite, being known as Laufey’s most popular album since it hit 5.7 million streams on its first day of release.
Before the show, students had a wide variety of songs they were most excited to see live. The two songs all student attendees interviewed agreed on, however, were “Letter to My 13-Year-Old Self”’ and “Promise.”
Many students interviewed after the show shared that seeing “Promise” performed live made them the most emotional out of the entire show, along with Laufey’s surreal-feeling entrance. One student, sophomore Selah Loevy, said, “I was really moved, since her music has always been a huge part of me. It brought me to tears.”
Fans also adored the jazz section of the concert, with a few students expressing the awe they felt watching Laufey perform her songs in a jazz style and play the cello. Senior Jaidyn Ritchie, expressed after the show that, “It was cool to hear her songs even more jazzified, and I could tell she was also having fun with it.”
Stunning set from the start
Aside from the performance itself, the technological elements of the Laufey concert elevated the entire experience. When asked what her favorite technical element of the show was, Senior Ginessa Thomas answered, “I think my favorite was the set, combined with the lights. It was just so pretty to look at, I could tell [the set designers] worked really hard on this tour.”
The set included thin arches following two detachable staircases up to a small tower, sitting above three pristine archways. This was the focal point of the concert, and was quite simple as a concept, but captivated the audience. The projections used in the show complimented the set, with abstract designs making the show feel very immersive to attendees.
Laufey and fans shared a love for the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, as well. Students expressed that the angled structure of the Amphitheatre made seeing the performance easier than most concerts, and the scenery left them in awe. Laufey shared this awe, captioning her post-concert Instagram post, “Red Rocks, one of my favorite shows I’ve ever played. Singing with you under the stars [and] among the rocks felt like something out of a movie.”
Students’ opinions about the audience around them were mixed. In some areas, students wished that the audience sang louder and showed more emotion throughout the performance. In other areas, students felt that the audience showed good etiquette, while still singing and rocking rhythmically to the music.
