The bonfire is one of many things that students look forward to during homecoming week. With a week jam packed with many fun activities such as movie night, homecoming football game, homecoming itself and more, it’s hard for activities to stand out during this time. The bonfire, however, is usually a different story.
With the peace of watching the fire, to the warmth the fire puts off, while a normal fire would push people away, the bonfire brings people together. People always enjoy going to the bonfire and get very excited to go. Since the bonfire is right after the powderpuff game, some people will go to just the bonfire and skip the game.
This year though, towards the end of the powderpuff game, the weather turned severe leading to the cancelation of the bonfire. The bonfire getting canceled led to many frowning faces, with disappointment crashing down on students.

The main group of people left in despair from the bonfire cancellation were the seniors planning on going. Since this would’ve been the last year seniors were able to go to the bonfire, those that were planning on going were not very happy when they found out it was cancelled.
Senior Kayla Talamantes said, “I was, I really was because I didn’t get to go the past four years. So I was really excited.”
Talamantes also spoke out on her initial thoughts about when the bonfire got cancelled saying, “I was really disappointed, I literally only went to the (powderpuff) game for the bonfire.”
The bonfire’s cancellation had a lasting impact on some students, as there are many that are still hoping for it to get rescheduled. When asked why he wants the bonfire rescheduled, Senior Xavier Trujillo responded, “Because I think the bonfire is a great experience for everybody. We got new freshmen that wanted to go that weren’t able to. Of course, they’re going to have more chances because they’re only freshmen, but for me, this would’ve been the first one that I was actually able to do.”
People believe that the bonfire can bring many people together in many different ways. When asked about how the bonfire brings people together Trujillo stated, “it’s just a friendly environment. Everybody’s trying to have fun, take fun pictures and all that, so it’s a good way to meet new people.” This shows that the bonfire truly brings people together, leading to a healthy school environment and lots of new friends.
The bonfire’s cancellation led to lots of disappointment, long-lasting impacts and potential friendships never being made.
