When it comes to the new bell schedule at Liberty High School, most students can come to one consensus: It is not what they prefer.

The old bell schedule had all classes start and end with a multiple of five. However, with this new bell schedule they end with what students consider to be random times. Junior Cade Roy would agree that the times classes start and end are random. When he was asked about how he finds this new bell schedule confusing he said, “It’s random times now.”
This new bell schedule can be seen as really confusing making the amount of tardies during this year skyrocket from previous years. When asked about his thoughts on the matter, junior Caden Miller pointed out, “I’ve definitely seen a lot of tardies due to this new bell schedule, which I think is a huge issue, just because it is very confusing with the odd numbers relating to the new bell schedule.”
This new set times for when classes start have had huge impacts on people inside of school, with many students not being afraid to share what they believe to be the many downsides of it. One downside many people have pointed out is shorter lunches. Roy spoke out on this saying, “we get a shorter lunch,” as the new schedule’s biggest downgrade.
When asked what he didn’t like about the new bell schedule, Miller went a little more in depth with the same thing saying, “The shorter lunch is really, really rough… especially a lot of these meetings that happen during lunch. For example, the student council just the other day, were finishing painting the homecoming posters and no one had time to go out after that and get lunch because of the new bell schedule.”
One thing that students do like about this new bell schedule however, is the extended passing periods. In previous years, the passing periods were only 5 minutes long, but with this new bell schedule they have been extended to 7 minutes. When talking about what he likes about the new bell schedule, Roy said, “we have longer passing periods, that’s really it though.”
Miller had a very similar answer on what he likes about this new bell schedule. He talked about the passing periods being the main benefit, but for a different reason than Roy. Miller talked about the financial benefits saying, “if we are having issues with contact hours, we aren’t going to lose any finances with extra contact hours, because the school definitely needs extra money to put places.”

When asked if he finds the new bell schedule confusing, senior Brodie Ross had a bit of a different answer from everyone else. Ross would end up using the term, “unorganized,” as opposed to “confusing.” Ross spoke his opinion on why he finds the new bell schedule unorganized saying, “Just the random times, it all adds up to 2:50, but I think it should be more straightforward times.”
According to Ross, examples of more straightforward times include 10:00, 10:15 and 10:30. He claims that times like these would make the schedule easier to remember, because they all end in either a zero or a five.
Ross also spoke out on what he believes to be the worst part of the new schedule, doubling down on it being disorganized. He considers it to be weird and confusing, and would much prefer the old schedule.
