Liberty team managers play a big role in keeping the team running smoothly and quickly. They are the backbone and structure of the team. They can often be unseen, but they play a very essential role being the unsung hero behind every play and every victory.
Whether it comes to refilling waters, organizing equipment and managing times the managers play a very important role in keeping the team going smoothly.
Junior Riley Simmet-Cole , one of the football team managers, is some of the people behind ,making our football team’s successes possible. When asked about what she does for the team, Cole responded, “A day in the life of a team manager is we manage time on the scoreboards and fill up water and if the coaches need me to do anything I get on top of that.”
Having a team manager in the background is very helpful to the team because they can do things that others don’t have time to do. Despite the integral role, the position is not without its drawbacks. This can include banter from opposing teams or own struggles within the team.
“Some struggles I face are the freshmen. They are out of control and don’t know how to listen sometimes so I either tell the coach or give them a long talk,” said Cole.
Cole also has to deal with banter from opposing teams. This includes members of other teams chirping at her while she is doing her job. Cole continues to push on and says she will continue to ignore the taunting and keep doing her job.
It is also important to note the background and why she decided to be team manager and expectations. These actions demonstrate her commitment to the team, as Cole stated“I really have a passion for football and got connections with coaches and went to meetings and started managing.”
The manager can also have an important impact on the players of the team. Jaxon Estep, a Liberty wide receiver, stated, “ The team manager can help the morale in many ways, whether it’s bringing water out to players or making sure they are doing okay mentally it can really keep players in the game longer.”
In the eyes of a player the team manager plays a critical role in their game. It may be small things but those are the things that count the most and are very essential.
The team manager can even give us school spirit and to go to the games and support our Lancers. By making sure the team is happy and having school spirit is a huge role in a successful team. The team managers play one of the most important roles a person could have behind the scenes. Whether it’s little things like putting on music or getting water it is a huge help to the team.
