While having been released in Japan on Sept. 19,2025, “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc” made its debut in the United States on Oct. 24, 2025. The film, animated by studio MAPPA, made 18.2 million dollars during its first weekend in the United States.
The movie itself was a masterclass in animation, with every shot having made my jaw drop, if you go see this movie yourself, the second you see that candy apple appear on screen you should hold your bladder because from that point onwards the movie’s charm really starts to shine.
One of the most important scenes to this film, and the story of chainsaw man in general, is the pool scene. The music for this scene specifically, and the music as a whole, really plays with your emotions and makes you feel the emotions that the protagonist, Denji, feels.
Being adapted from the manga, Chainsaw Man’s first theatrical debut really brings out what made the manga feel special, which was maintaining its cinematic feel while keeping the energy of the story much better than season one of the anime did.
The center point of the film, the character of Reze, really got her chance to shine as well. From what I personally have seen, not too many people liked Reze when reading the manga, but the film made many people in my own life change their opinion of her.
People who read the manga beforehand know how the movie turns out, it’s just a part of having read the book before the movie, but enough new content was added to where even someone who could recite the manga panel by panel would be pleasantly surprised and excited. With especially the main fight in the finale taking up the last 40 mins of the film, which was fairly short in the manga.
The english dub cast mostly returned from season one, and the voices for new characters like Reze and Typhoon did just as well. Some standout performances were Denji voiced by Ryan Colt Levy, Beam voiced by Derick Snow, and Alexsis Tipton as the titular Reze.
Overall, “Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc” gets 5/5 stars, even if you know nothing about this story and these characters, you will have a good time and may or may not leave with some tears shed.
Rating: 5/5, I’d give it a 6 if I could.
