There are many trends students display that many teachers consider to be annoying. These habits can include playing with fidget spinners to help get energy out, pretending to be still for the mannequin challenge or most recently; yelling “six seven” in the middle of class while making a gesture with both hands anytime those numbers get said next to each other.
The trend of saying “six seven” anytime those words get brought up is affecting loved ones all around. Those participating in this trend or “meme” as some would say is heavily affecting math teachers all around. This meme is making it nearly impossible for a math teacher to make it through a single lesson without getting bombarded with “six seven.”
One teacher who has been heavily affected by this meme is Annie Whipple. Whipple expresses her annoyance: “the constant interruptions really get under my skin.”
The immediate effect the trend has on math teachers, as all they are trying to do is their job, and they can’t even do that without being constantly and consistently being interrupted by students.
Some students consider this meme to be hilarious while others find it rude and disrespectful. One student that has not enjoyed this meme’s uprising is senior Landon Walser. Walser said, “it’s insanely disruptive, I’m trying to get good grades, but I can’t even hear my math teacher sometimes because of [six seven].”
The meme isn’t only disruptive towards teachers, but students as well. It causes a large distraction leading to dropping grades. Due to this meme taking over, even the kids that want to pay attention, learn and do well in school are incapable of doing so. These typically academically achievable students are unable to achieve at a level at which they are capable because they can’t focus over all the “six sevens” being thrown around.
Some students find this meme to be very funny, which is why it continues to occur. One student who finds this meme to be funny is junior Caden Miller. When asked why he thinks the meme is funny Miller said, “Seeing teachers get so easily rage baited is hilarious, even when I’m not the one doing it.”
People will continue to do it because they know that at least someone is going to find it funny. Most of the people that do this do it for attention, so as long as they have the knowledge that every time, they do it at least somebody will find it funny, they will continue to do it.
Memes typically don’t last very long, as people move on to something they find funnier. The “six seven” meme, however, could be a completely different story, as it’s already been going for months. This meme could be the meme to break the trend and stick around for a while. Because of that, this meme has earned a six out of seven for Lancer Nation students and staff.
