Students of Liberty are focused on getting through finals to get to break. Those who grade, the teachers of Liberty, however, have their own plans for their time off. It appears all of Liberty is waiting for a break off work and to get some free time.
Sandra Cook, Liberty English teacher, said for her break will consist of, “Nothing out of town, but lots of gatherings with good friends, and of course, Christmas Eve mass. My husband and I are super excited to go to the ChristkindelMarkt in Old Colorado City. We used to go to the Christmas markets all over Germany, so it’ll be a rather nostalgic evening for us.”
Social Studies teacher, Kelly Straub said, “Since Mr. Straub and I’s kids are a bit older now, we have several outings we hope to do. Before Christmas we plan on going to the Broadmoor to walk the pond and see their lights/gingerbread creations (our son really enjoys baking so this is always fun for him), we hope to also finally get to Denver’s German Christmas market and of course see our families since all live in Colorado! Late last winter our kids learned to ski, so we are planning on a day trip for that. Both kids quickly learned and enjoyed skiing, Mr. Straub also skis, and I have tried, it’s just not for me, so I’ll find quiet mountain activities to do too while they bond over that.”
English teacher, Andrea Shipp is planning to spend time with family in the area: “This will be our first Christmas in several years without my brother and sister-in law, who moved back to New York City in January. But we are excited to spend time together and will certainly facetime with them on Christmas. Otherwise, my big plan for Winter Break is to contact a dog trainer who can help me work with my almost one year old Cavapoo, Sammie. He gets very anxious in the car and in stores and I’d like to find someone who can help with that.”
Teachers of LHS have been planning ahead for their breaks. How far back do people plan ahead? For Cook, “Usually a month or so. The choir has been practicing Christmas songs since October though.”
While for Straub, “We think about holiday events we want to do around Thanksgiving Break since we have time to slow down. We are just grateful to have a few weeks together to enjoy the holidays and get outside much more than we usually do!”
As the clock ticks down to break, students and teachers alike wait to spend time with loved ones and take a break from the workload. As Ms. Cook said, “I wish everyone a Happy Everything and I hope everyone is excited for what the new year brings!”
