The Liberty High School Girls’ Basketball team has jumped out to a solid and promising start this season, building momentum and showcasing the talent that runs deep within the program. Despite facing new challenges, the players are focused, setting ambitious goals, and celebrating the unique camaraderie that defines their squad.
When asked about the early season performance, senior Amelia Motley shared the team’s optimism. “It’s been really solid,” Motley noted. “We’ve had a really strong start, so let’s hope that continues.”
This sentiment is echoed by junior Samira Grant, who stated simply, “It’s been pretty good; won most of our games.”
Senior Emma Hill pointed to the team’s history as a major factor in their success: “I think it’s been going pretty well; most of us have played together for like two years, so it’s helped.”
This season, the team has had to adapt to significant changes, particularly the loss of a key senior class. Grant highlighted the impact of graduating players: “Lost all of our seniors—like four people.”
For the returning athletes, this means stepping into new roles. Motley embraced this challenge: “I’m a senior, so I guess I have a bit more responsibility with the team, but it’s been fun.”
Hill also experienced a shift, having recently adjusted her role on the court: “It’s been different for me this year ’cause I’ve had to sub, but not anymore.”
The Lady Lancers are not just aiming for a winning record; they have their sights set on major milestones.
For Grant, the personal and team goals are clearly defined. She is looking to “hit 1000 points and make playoffs,” with the pursuit of the four-digit scoring mark being her biggest excitement. “HITTING 1000 POINTS!” she emphasized.
Hill also has her eyes firmly fixed on postseason play, stating, “I want to make playoffs,” along with a strong personal scoring goal: “a 15-20 point average.”
Motley, while focused on wins, stressed the importance of the team experience. Her goals are “to have fun and win games.”
Beyond the scoreboard, the players are looking forward to the moments that truly make a season memorable.
For Amelia, the anticipation is all about tradition and recognition: “Senior night and getting to do that.” Hill, meanwhile, is most excited for the intangible connection the team shares, emphasizing, “To have that team bonding experience.”
As the season progresses, the Liberty High Girls’ Basketball team is proving that success is built on a foundation of strong teamwork, adaptable roles and focused ambition. With a solid starting record and high hopes for personal milestones and a run for the playoffs, this is shaping up to be a memorable year for the Lady Lancers.
