Throughout her years at Liberty High School, senior and girls’ basketball player Samira Gantt has spent much of her time with her teammates on the basketball court. However, this year Gantt has hit a new milestone that many students dream of reaching.

Gantt has reached 935 points which puts her in second place for scoring points in one career. While the milestone is impressive, Basketball is more than just a game to Gantt. As she explained, the sport has helped her build friendships, find inspiration for her life and grow closer to her family.
While this accomplishment is something only one student has done before her, Gantt does not want to stop here. Gantt hopes to attempt to break the record for scoring points in a career at Liberty. “I think I can break first place and hopefully I can break first place on senior night,” said Gantt.
The young athlete’s dedication and hard work will be put to the test on senior night where the record will be up for grabs.
Ahead of senior night, Gantt is also very grateful for the people who have aided her in her journey to where she is today, as she stated, “ The coaches were really good here and us and our teammates had really good team chemistry.”
Gantt was also inspired by her father, “My dad played basketball and he has coached me since I was like four … My dad helped me get to where I am and my brother and coaches helped me get to where I wanted to be,” she said.
For Gantt, basketball is more than a game. The impact a simple sport can have on one’s life can best be explained by her when she stated, ”Basketball has helped me create so many good friendships with people I would never normally meet and basketball has even helped me travel all across America.”
Although this is Gantt’s last year of high school, she does not plan to end her journey in the sport of basketball. Gantt explained, “I’m happy I have made it this far but I’m also sad, I will miss the team but I also can not wait to take my talents elsewhere.. I have not decided on college yet but I might take basketball there.’
Even though this is the end of her time at Liberty, Gantt has left her footprint within the program as she has not only broken records but also inspired her teammates and fans around her.
